Ah, the SMARTBoard...if you aren't sure what one is, you may want to check out the clip I have included below. I think its value in preschool, especially early childhood special ed classrooms is really underestimated. For almost a year, I have used our school's SMARTBoard daily, as my canvas for circle time. I should admit that I am spoiled. There is a SMARTBoard mounted to the wall in a "Learning Lab" down the hall. Our technology specialist has allowed me to put tape on her carpet to mark seats and leave all my other circle time paraphernalia on her counter.

I really have a lot of fun creating activities, songs, stories, etc. using the software that comes with the SMARTBoard, but if you are timid in your technology usage, or don't have such easy access then maybe you should try out some interactive websites first. Anything your students enjoy playing on the computer in your classroom can be projected onto the SMARTBoard and played as a group. What a great lesson in waiting your turn! The websites I have included on "following great websites..." are wonderful places to start.

As I get this blog up and running, I will post my own SMARTBoard files for you to download and try with your students...continue to check back for new "SMARTthoughts"!

Have to share...

This could be the most widely known recipe...well, for everyone except me. I have to share it though because they look (& taste) like they took hours to make and yet they are insanely easy! Oreo Cookie Balls are my new Christmas cookie obsession...

1 package Oreo cookies
1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese
1 package white chocolate

Put Oreo cookies in food processor, process until fine. Place crumbs into a bowl and mix with cream cheese. Roll mixture into balls and place on cookie sheet. Chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Once chilled, dip in melted white chocolate (or semi-sweet). Place cookie balls on wax paper in refrigerator to harden.

Hello 2009, please be kind.

This is my favorite picture of the last few seconds of 2008. I've set a completely realistic and simple resolution for once. I promise myself to do my dishes before going to bed. Something about dirty dishes in the sink isn't the nicest to wake up to in the morning. Maybe 2009 will bring the end of the small apartment, no dishwasher days.
